Aussie Driver Search utilises a strict judging process which looks at a number of areas to determine our winners. While speed is important, a driver must be competent in other aspects in order to impress our judges and progress through the competition.
With how competitive each competition is, the judging often will go down to small aspects in other areas to determine the ultimate winner.
At the drivers briefing of each event, judges will explain what is required of competitors and how to be successful. However judges will be scoring drivers in the following areas.
Judges will score competitors on their overall speed. This is separate to lap times and is whether the competitor got the most out of the car for the conditions and how quickly they adapted to the Motorcar
Competitors must be consistent with no incidents. Lap times must also be consistent with the driver progressively getting faster with each lap.
Successful competitors must display a high level of car control. The inputs given to the car must be smooth and controlled. The car should be driven on the limit of grip but not over it.
Drivers must display a high level of mechanical sympathy and be good on the equipment. This includes clutch control, gear shifts, braking inputs, steering input and throttle control.
A driver’s overall technique will be assessed including steering technique, throttle control, brake modulation, gearshifts and more advanced techniques including heal and toe
Attitude will play an important role in the judging criteria. Driver’s must be respectful, follow ADS’s instructions and possess an overall good attitude to be selected as a prize winner or finalist.
Being a successful racing driver requires much more than just being able to drive. We will be looking at how well a driver can represent and promote ADS is they were to win a competition along with interact with and represent our sponsors.
